Why does L’Arche matter?
L’Arche matters because it challenges a very deep assumption most societies make: that a person’s worth is tied to their productivity, independence, or “ability.”
L’Arche redefines what it means to be human. Instead of valuing people for what they can do, L’Arche emphasizes who people are. We believe that what matters most is being present to one another through relationships, presence, vulnerability, and mutual care.
L’Arche Erie is a nonprofit in Erie, Pennsylvania for adults with intellectual disabilities.
L’Arche Erie is made up of homes where adults with intellectual disabilities (called core members) and assistants (direct support professionals) share life together by sharing meals, routines, celebrations, and friendships. In addition to lifelong homes, L’Arche Erie has both LifeSharing and Respite care services.
